God told me to love my enemies and I obeyed and chose to love myself.

A lack of empathy is what Kill's art.

June 1st, 2018

Why does some art fail? well there's a few reasons but #1 is a lack of empathy. In order to be a good artist you have to care about people. it doesn't matter if you are trying to write a good story or draw some one's portrait the most important thing is that you have to care. You have to care about the character that you are writing about there pain there motivations there hardships and triumphs. Same thing with drawing a great portrait you want to try and capture her Beauty her pain her inner sadness. you know that unspoken thing about her that made you want to draw her... or him in the first place that thing that goes beyond physical beauty. Now I'm not saying you have to be in love with everyone you draw or paint lol... hell most of the time you won't even know them...I just had a guy who wanted me to paint a portrait of his girlfriend you could tell just by listening to him that he really loves her. Now to get a feel for this woman that I have never met I asked him what kind of music does she like? what is her favorite color? and for a few pictures of her. not just the best one's but some of her just having fun. Again I didn't know these people he just saw my work on line and wanted to hire me. It was my job as an artist to care about them both to make sure that they would be happy with the finished product. So in closing that is one of the keys to creating beautiful art you just have to care. Thanks for reading and have a great day.

Should you copy anther artist work?

August 9th, 2017

Should you copy another artist work? My answer is... hell to the yeah! When I was young and trying to learn how to draw I was copying everything from Betty and Veronica to batman ninja turtles and the X-men! Lol It can truly be a great learning experience it puts you in that artist shoes temporary. and it helps you to think the way they were thinking at that moment in time and to figure out his or her technique from the ground up. now don't get me wrong I'm not talking about copying another artist work and trying to sale it as your own that is wrong on so many levels and you can get sued in to the poorhouse no I'm talking about learning some new skills that can help you with your own art. And if your copy's look great and you are proud of them and you want to share them on twitter and instagram by all means do so this can also help you get noticed but please give the original artist some credit.

Creating art for yourself vs creating art for others

August 8th, 2017

Creating art for yourself Vs creating art for others? I've found it should be a healthy combination of the two. don't get me wrong the most important thing is to create art that you are passionate about... but I've found that it can be very rewarding to create something beautiful for someone else and it can sometimes take you out of your comfort zone and you can make something amazing! Something you had not even thought of. and that brings me to my next point that it's always good to make some extra money but it can be a bit frustrating when you want to create your next masterpiece but someone has paid you to draw a ninja turtle lol but keep in mind that you always want to do right by your client and that ninja turtle painting may be very important to that clients son or daughter it may even inspire them to become an artist in the future just remember to take your time and create the best art you can for your client and if you have a deadline take full advantage of it. so you can take a break and do a few sketches of the things that interest you so that when you are done with your client and there happy and you've got a bit of extra cash you can get back to the work that makes you happy.

Feeling Uninspired

August 4th, 2017

What I do when I'm feeling uninspired. well a few shots of vodka always helps... that and some of your favorite music but the most important thing is to relax... trust me when I tell you that the inspiration will come most of the time it will find you when you are doing something like cleaning or watching game of thrones. Another important thing is to keep track of all those little ideas that come to you all through the day and night write them down or record them on your phone. Sometimes I can be asleep and I'll wake up and start sketching something I saw in a dream...that brings me to another suggestion try to to keep a sketch book with you as much as possible. You never know when your muse will find you but when she does you will want to be ready.
